2010 Materialization Process of a Double Curved Surface

In the digital age, the image behind the computer interface reflects the immaterial world of the architecture. The method proposed tests the application process of a digitally driven complex architectural form, with differentiated architectural materials, in the preliminary design phase. Differentiated formal outputs are generated by several parameters that form a computational surface established through two mathematical curve functions. The geometric form is converted into architectural scale and optimized through material limitations which become an integral part of the material-driven design process. Double-curved surfaces are rationalized by transformation into single-curved and flat ones based on material properties and manufacturing constraints.
